10 brands are going to disappear…

by Francesco Ungaro on Jul 23, 2010

24/7 Wall St. regularly publishes a report of global brands that are likely to disappear in the near-term.
Last April, 24/7 Wall St. identified ten brands that would disappear in 2011:

Reader’s Digest
Blockbuster, Inc.
Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group
T-Mobile
Moody’s Corporation
BP
RadioShack
Zale Corporation
Merrill Lynch
Kia Motors Corporation

In my opinion, the brand most likely will disappear in 2011 is Blockbuster reason being the old-fashioned business model: technology on one hand and consumers on the other are definitely ahead than Blockbuster…
Regarding British Petrol, I suppose they will invest money to re-build reputation and make it visible through a logo restyle but they won’t disappear. Let’s simply remember that oil is still the core of industry…

What do you think, what’s your POV on the list? Do you agree with it?

It is interesting, that it isn’t just brands that will disappear but out dated business models. When the combination of brand irrelevance, consumer trends and poor business models intersect it is highly likely that a brand will become history…

here are a few of my bets..if not disappear in a year, within the next few years…Or, they will radically need to overhaul their brand name/identify and imagery…
    Tie Rack
    EMI
    Benetton
    Timex
    FCUK
    Hickory Farms
    Monsoon
    Dr Martens
    Western Union

Maybe the question should be, “Which brands should disappear?”

yes…which brands should disappear…as in they don’t live up to their promise, they aren’t worth the price paid or they just dont deserve to exist… which ones Marc would you suggest? here is my list…

    RyanAir – hate them

Hello Kitty – what is that all about anyway, and shouldnt it just go the way of the Cabbage Patch doll?

Lush – the smell so powerful you can locate the store a mile away.

Cinnabon – the smell so powerful you can locate the store a mile away. (and, is there anything nutritious about it?)

Jcloths – I don’t like them as products, and why are they called ‘J’ cloths. Disrespect to the letter J I think.

Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes – can this big con to buy magazines just be stopped!?!

Travelex – rip off exchange rates and ‘buy back’ cons

Outback steakhouses – nothing even vaguely authentically australian about this…makes me long for the return of Ponderosa’s

there are some US/UK starters… I want to hear others’ views.
