A brief history of the emoticon.

We’ve been using symbols to communicate to each other since prehsitoric times. The emoticon is just an evolution of the ritualistic, simplistic visual messages we use to communicate feelings and describe events.
In 1982, Carnegie Mellon Computer Science geek Scott Fahlman was credited as the originator of the punctuation-as-symbols/modern day emoticon, and today, we celebrate a brief history of the emoticon ; )
