Happy and Glorious

So that’s it, in the blink of an eye, it’s over! 17 days of mesmerising sport, magic moments, millions of spectators and ‘mobots’ everywhere!

If the Opening Ceremony of London 2012 set the tone for what was to come, the Closing Ceremony was one huge unashamed after-party, contributing to a full-blown, nationwide Olympic hangover this morning.

It was yet another blast of British culture and heritage, a ‘symphony of British music’ featuring the likes of The Who, Muse, Elbow, The Royal Ballet, Stomp, Spice Girls, Queen, even Eric Idle!

The hand over to Rio, and the moving ritual of extinguishing the Olympic Flame, marked a fitting end to what have been arguably the greatest games ever, certainly in the minds of the British people.

So, we bid fairwell to the London Olympics with a tear in our eye and a cheerful wave, but do not despair, the Paralympics are coming!

In the words of Channel 4’s latest campaign, “Thanks for the warm-up”.
