So, here we go. It’s seven years since London was chosen as host city for the 2012 Olympics, and over three years since we started our work as Marketing Services Provider for the Games.
We are now only hours away from the highly anticipated Opening Ceremony, and as the excitement builds to a crescendo the attention turns to the iconic moment that signals the start of the Games; the lighting of the Olympic flame. Who is it going to be?
Current betting suggests that the favourites include Sir Roger Bannister and Sir Steve Redgrave, as well as Olympic greats Daley Thompson and Dame Kelly Holmes. A royal bet could be for Prince William, or will they go for youthful promise with Tom Daley?
Have we seen too much of David Beckham to give him a chance, or does he get the sympathy vote for being left out of Team GB? There have also been rumblings of a return for Mohammad Ali to fill the role for a second time.
Don’t these all sound a bit too obvious? Time to look at the curveballs…
An alternative that has been gathering momentum is that they might steer away from a sporting icon and go for someone from the East End. Or how about another British icon in the form of James Bond?
I am particularly hopeful that it will be Keith Richards – I have an image of him flicking his cigarette into the cauldron and lighting the flame, right in the middle of Start Me Up, it’s a long shot I admit!
There is a genuine late contender as per my last post with ‘The Wiggo Factor’ picking up speed.
We wait with baited breath!
